Ian Constance has been appointed as the new CEO of the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), starting next month.

The APC is a £1 billion programme aimed at helping turning low carbon propulsion concepts into products developed and produced in the UK.

Over the last year and a half, the APC has invested in ten projects worth more than £174 million, involving 54 different organisations and creating or securing at least 4,500 UK jobs. In addition, these projects are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 12 million tonnes.

Constance joins the APC from his role as Chief Global Engineer for Large Cars at Ford Motor Company in Detroit. He was worked with Ford in the UK and around the world in various leadership roles.

APC Chairman, Dr. Gerhard Schmidt, said, ”‘Ian brings a wealth of global experience from 25 years in the automotive industry which will enable him to help organisations with the development of low carbon propulsion technology in the UK.”

Ian Constance takes over from Tony Pixton, who will remain on the APC Board. Dr. Schmidt praised Pixton’s contribution, saying, “Tony has completed his assignment to deliver a successful fast start-up for the organisation. I welcome his continued service as a member of the APC Board as we continue the important work of delivering opportunities and growth for the UK automotive sector.”
