24 August 2017 #SMMT News #UK Manufacturing
  • 12.0% July engine production boost counteracts June dip, with output rising by more than 20,000 units ahead of planned August plant upgrades.
  • Domestic demand up 25.5% as new models come on stream and carmakers plan for September plate change.
  • 1.6 million engines produced in first seven months of the year – up 4.5% on 2016.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said,

The UK’s engine manufacturing sector has recently enjoyed billions of pounds of investment into plants and R&D, so it’s good to see returns continue in 2017. Given the direct link between this industry’s success and demand for new cars, both in Britain and overseas, maintaining the free and frictionless trade we currently enjoy with the EU and other key international markets will be critical to ongoing investment and growth.
