Ryder, the vehicle rental company, has announced 125 medium-duty electric vans will be added to its fleet by the end of the year.
The vehicles are supplied by Chanje Energy, a US-based OEM providing electric vehicles and infrastructure, and are rated to carry up to 2,700kg with zero tailpipe emissions. Following an electric vehicle service partnership between Ryder and Chanje, the 125 vehicles will be available for lease or rental and six of Ryder’s locations will be equipped with the latest EV charging technology.
“The roll out of our new electric vehicle offering reinforces Ryder’s leadership in commercial advanced vehicle technology solutions and demonstrates our commitment to identifying innovative ways to meet our customers’ transportation needs,” said Dennis Cooke, President, Global Fleet Management Solutions for Ryder. “We are proud to partner with Chanje to bring an all-electric medium-duty vehicle to market, as this will further promote energy efficiency in the industry by allowing our rental and lease customers to implement electric vehicles into their operations on a short-term or long-term basis.”
As well as the introduction of the electric vans JuiceBox Pro 40 level 2 charging stations will be installed at key Ryder locations. Linked by a cloud-based control platform the charging stations offer remote access control, automatic energy management to avoid peak pricing and smart algorithms to maximise charging from renewable energy sources. The collaboration between Ryder and Chanje has been specifically targeted to offer flexibility for users in the locations where there is the most significant pressure on emission and noise pollution.
