Portuguese bus maker CaetanoBus has taken the wraps off a new hydrogen-powered bus – the H2. City Gold.
The new model will be the first in Europe to utilise Toyota’s advanced fuel cell technology and will be capable of covering up to 400km on a single hydrogen refill, which takes as little as nine minutes.
Crucially, the vehicle gives off no harmful emissions, just water.
José Ramos, President of Salvador Caetano Indústria, said, “This project will enable cities to rethink their future mobility and enhance quality of life.”
Hydrogen tanks and the fuel cell stack are stored on the vehicle’s roof to optimise the interior space and maximise passenger capacity.
The vehicle is equipped with advanced hydrogen leak and crash sensors which can cut off the flow of hydrogen in the event of an accident.
Deliveries of the new H2. City Gold are scheduled to start in 2020.
