Ford has introduced an innovative geofencing option on the new Ford Transit Custom plug-in hybrid to help improve urban air quality.
The technology uses live location data to automatically switch the vehicle into electric drive mode whenever it enters pre-defined areas such as congestion and low-emission zones.
It also allows vehicle operators to set their own custom ‘green zones’ to ensure emissions are minimised in areas like warehouses and near schools and playgrounds.
Mike Harvey, Ford’s European commercial vehicle mobility director, said, “Improving the quality of air – and quality of life – in our towns and cities is a goal that we all have a responsibility to drive towards.
“This new geofencing feature will help our customers to make a real contribution to that goal without compromising on efficiency or productivity.”
