DPD has announced its ambition to cut final mile emissions by 89% in 25 UK locations by 2025. The delivery company has recently completed a low emissions trial in London and is more widely investing in a low and zero-emissions vehicle fleet, with suitability based on regulatory and geographical constraints.
DPD already operates more than 700 electric vehicles in the UK, including MAN eTGEs, Nissan eNV-200s and 7.5t Fuso eCanters. It will be exploring larger scale electric vehicle viability through trials with LEVC and Volta Trucks.
DPD chief executive, Dwain McDonald, said, “We’ve led the way on EVs in the UK parcel market, first with our all-electric micro depots in London and then with the scale of our nationwide investment. We already have EVs in every UK depot.
“This is the next stage of our plan. To deliver totally green in the 25 of the largest towns and cities in the country, drastically reducing our emissions in the places with the highest populations.”
McDonald went on to explain that DPD aims to be, “the most sustainable delivery company in the UK and Europe” and that, “shippers and shoppers both love seeing parcels delivered green.”
DPD’s commitment is expected to result in an 89% reduction in carbon emissions and 80% drop in pollutants from its vehicles in the cities selected by 2025.
