Payload key to new Volvo FM Lite for Erewash Commercials

A Nottingham aggregates supplier says huge payload advantages inspired it to purchase a new Volvo tractor unit that weighs nearly eight tons.

Erewash Commercials will use the FM Globetrotter Lite 6×2 to transport heavyweight tipping gear and building materials, aided by features such as a mono leaf front suspension, lightweight pusher axle, aluminium air tanks, an aluminium susie arch and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.

The unit, which adds to Erewash’s 20-strong fleet, also comes with LED headlights, fully digital instrument display, air-operated fifth wheel, twin roof-mounted amber LED beacons and tipping gear from Commercial Vehicle Hydraulics.

The haulage company acquired the tractor from Jack Castle, of Hartshorne Group, having specified the vehicle with full electronic air-conditioning, twin armrests, a nine-inch side display with touchscreen and a bunk.

The new FM is powered by Volvo’s D13K engine, designed for driveability and low fuel consumption, producing 460 hp and 2,300 Nm of torque.

It comes with a Volvo Gold Contract for all routine maintenance at Hartshorne Group’s dealership in Alfreton, just a few miles from Erewash’s base in Pinxton.

Adam Smith, Director at Erewash Commercials said: “So far, we have been really impressed with the FM’s payload capacity.

“We specifically wanted the truck to be as light as possible and Jack and the team at Hartshorne have guided us to a fantastic solution – and all without affecting performance or comfort levels.

“Being able to carry more per load reduces the number of journeys we make, which in turn cuts running costs and saves fuel – improving our sustainability and profitability.”
