A Bristol transport specialist has taken delivery of a new Volvo FH 500 as it prepares for a busy summer of music tours, television shoots and live events.
Bath International Transport acquired the 4×2 tractor unit with a Globetrotter XL cab as its first Volvo for more than a decade, replacing a well-used truck in its fleet of eight that delivers lighting and staging equipment across the UK and into Europe.
The FH, which is expected to clock up about 100,000 km per year, is powered by a D13K Euro-6 engine that produces up to 500 hp and a maximum torque output of 2,500 Nm. It is also fitted with a 12-speed I-Shift gearbox and Volvo’s Long Haul Fuel package, featuring I-See predictive cruise control.
The truck is built on a 3,700 mm wheelbase that has been specified with an X-Low chassis that will optimise fifth wheel height for the company’s Mega Cube trailers. It also has a Two-Bed Resting package, including a 33-litre under-bunk mounted fridge-freezer and microwave, and a Media package with navigation and DAB radio.
Gary Bath, Director of Bath International Transport, said: “The driver really likes it. During the summer it gets really busy and the guys can be away for four to five weeks at a time, all across Europe, so it’s important they are happy in their working environment.”
