Alexander Dennis has supplied five new single and double deck buses to Notts+Derby, the transport service for University of Derby students.
Notts+Derby, part of the Wellglade Group, ordered the three Enviro400 double deckers and two Enviro200 single deckers for an upgrade of the Unibus routes it provides under contract to the University of Derby.
Linking the university’s sites to each other as well as to the railway station and park and ride facilities, the Unibus service is part-funded by car park charges.
A total of 335,000 trips were made on Unibus during the 2021/22 academic year.
The mix of double and single deck buses allows the operator to reduce fuel costs by matching vehicle type to demand.
While the Enviro400s seat up to 85 passengers on busy journeys, the Enviro200s provide a fuel-efficient alternative where their 34-seat capacity is sufficient.
All seats are Alexander Dennis SmartSeats with three-point belts.
The order of the five new buses follows earlier deliveries of Enviro200 single deckers to sister company Trentbarton, and Alexander Dennis says they will fit into the Notts+Derby fleet and “enable it to provide a first-class service for the University of Derby and its students”.
Stuart Frost, Manager at Notts+Derby, said: “The new buses not only look great, but they also help to promote sustainable travel across the University of Derby network.
“Students travelling on Unibus are delighted by these new buses, the level of on-board comfort makes travelling a pleasure for those wanting to get things done, it’s a very productive experience.”
