Newport Transport has taken delivery of four zero-emission Yutong coaches, adding to its battery electric fleet.

The PSVAR-compliant 46-seat TCe12s, which each have a toilet and dual centre doors fitted with wheelchair user access, will be deployed on private hire and day trips for educational establishments and other clients around South-East Wales.

These Yutongs are the first zero-emission coaches to enter into service in Wales, as part of Newport’s growing coach operation.

Newport Transport expects its new coaches to deliver a range of more than 200 miles powered by the 281kW/h of energy capacity.

The TCe12s join Newport’s extensive battery-electric bus fleet that will also be joined by two Yutong U11DD zero-emission double-deckers in due course.

Ian Downie, Head of Yutong Sales at Pelican, said: “The TCe12s represent the fourth tranche of Yutong vehicles to arrive with Newport Transport. The operator was the UK’s first buyer of battery-electric buses from Pelican. The relationship continues to prosper for the benefit of Newport’s population.”

Zenobe’s battery and vehicle financing solutions will support the acquisition, and the electric coaches will use charging equipment at the Corporation Road depot in Newport that is already operated and maintained by Zenobe.

This is expected to guarantee the health and performance of each onboard battery for the next 16 years.

Scott Pearson, Newport Transport Managing Director, said: “Our EV fleet is already leading the way in Wales, bringing improvement to air quality across the city and surrounding areas.

“With the introduction of electric coaches, we continue to show our commitment to providing an innovative, environmentally sustainable transport solution for South Wales.”
