CV Show 2024 will turn the dial further to zero

19 April 2024 #CEO Update

With UK van and truck operators facing some of the world’s most ambitious end of sale targets for non-zero emission models, planning for decarbonisation must begin now to keep Britain on the move. While the new passenger car market’s transition has been underway for some years, switching the heaviest vehicles on our roads to electric and hydrogen powertrains, given their unique use cases, remains challenging. With barely a decade to go until that end of sale date, the industry is doing all it can not just to develop the technologies but to promote them too. That makes this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, taking place at the NEC Birmingham next week from Tuesday to Thursday, particularly important.

The Show – the biggest road transport expo in the country – provides the perfect platform for a showcase of some of the latest zero emission vans and trucks on offer in the UK today, and indeed the choice of models available to operators looking to make the switch has never been greater. Global brands are all exhibiting their latest and cleanest vehicles, giving attendees a glimpse of what’s coming to drive the transition to zero emission transportation.

And, thanks to the Ride and Drive area, attendees will also be able to test drive some of these new models from the driver’s seat, an exciting feature to go with an all-new addition – The Road Ahead’ seminar programme featuring 18 senior industry figures and influencers, from leading OEMs, SMMT, the RHA, National Grid and more. Their expertise, on topics from fleet decarbonisation and futureproofing depots to policymaking and regulation, will be of interest to anyone looking to make sense of the current zero emission transport landscape.

Skills is another key component of the net zero transition given the need to hire, train and retain the very best talent, so there will also be a special seminar stream with prospective young apprentices that will discuss the rewarding careers on offer to them and how industry can attract new school leavers.
