European debut for BYD’s new intercity eBus

19 Jun 2025

The all-new 13-metre BYD eBus B13.b, offering more than 430 miles of range and up to 78-passenger capacity, made its European debut this week.

BYD unveiled its latest pure-electric intercity bus, the B13.b, for the first time in Europe at UITP Summit Hamburg. Powered by BYD’s self-developed Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery technology, the BYD eBus B13.b promises new standards for safety, energy efficiency, performance and passenger comfort.

The B13.b is offered with a maximum battery capacity of 560kWh and is capable of transporting up to 78 passengers and travelling for more than 434 miles on a single charge.

BYD also showcased its B12b model: the first eBus designed on BYD’s next-generation eBus platform, featuring the brand’s Blade Battery Chassis. This Cell-to-Chassis technology, which is now also underpinning the new BYD eBus B13.b, integrates the BYD Blade battery packs within the chassis, enabling them to form part of the structure.

It is designed to enhance space efficiency and enable low-floor access for greater passenger convenience.

The Blade Battery Chassis, utilised by both the BYD B12.b and BYD B13.b, is combined with BYD’s self-developed, ultra-efficient Silicon Carbide-based 6-in-1 controller, two-wheel hub hairpin motors and advanced Active Suspension Control System.

A BYD spokesperson said: “BYD has been at the forefront of electric bus innovation for over a decade, having deployed its first commercial electric bus fleet in 2011, and has pioneered battery technology since 1995.

“As of 2025, BYD has received more than 6,500 eBus orders across 26 countries in Europe, covering more than 160 major cities. BYD eBus models have collectively driven more than 360 million miles in Europe, contributing to more than 630,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced, supporting Europe’s carbon neutrality goals.”
