Trade and industrial strategies champion UK Automotive
Simon Winterbottom, International Manager, shares about upcoming activities for the July edition of the SMMT International Update.
The publication last week of the UK’s Trade Strategy represents a huge opportunity for British automotive businesses to grow internationally – growth that could be worth billions to our economy – with a new strategic approach between industry and government. With imports and exports worth £108 billion a year, Britain’s automotive sector is already one of the country’s biggest exporters of goods, and the new strategy will help us expand even further – helping to address key issues such as energy, infrastructure, skills, access to finance, tariffs and regulatory barriers.
As SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes said, the Trade Strategy “provides confidence to help our sector navigate the many headwinds we face”, offering “a foundation for future success”, bolstering the UK’s recently published Industrial Strategy. It is now time for UK businesses to capitalise on these opportunities, and SMMT is here to support.
On the other side of the world this week, SMMT is in Thailand for MobilityTech Asia Bangkok, where we are supporting a delegation of UK companies on the sold-out UK Pavilion.
