Describe Don-Bur’s new status as IOSH Accredited Training Provider?
Don-Bur is now an IOSH Accredited Training Provider – a significant leap forward in our ongoing commitment to health and safety across our sites. This new capability allows us to deliver the IOSH ‘Managing Safely’ course internally, providing tailored training to our managers and supervisors in line with the specific risks and responsibilities of our manufacturing environment.
Manufacturing environments can be inherently hazardous, and managing risk effectively is critical. The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed to give managers and supervisors the practical knowledge they need to take ownership of safety and embed it into everyday operations.
Achieving this status has been no small feat. Our Health & Safety Manager, Mark Nixon, worked tirelessly over a period of 14 months to meet IOSH’s stringent requirements – covering everything from internal quality control processes to trainer competency and assessment standards.
Tell us more about the course?
Delivered over a minimum of three days, the course covers risk assessment and control, as well as legal responsibilities and compliance. There are also sections on incident investigation techniques, performance measurement and auditing, as well as hazard identification across mechanical, physical, chemical, and organisational categories.
By bringing this expertise in-house, we can ensure contextualised training that reflects our real-world working practices.
The course is also expected to deliver improved safety performance and fewer incidents; faster roll-out of critical training initiatives across sites; long-term cost savings by reducing the need for external trainers; and enhanced internal standards aligned with national best practices.
How important is the accreditation for the business?
Our IOSH-accredited programme isn’t just a checkbox – it is part of a larger cultural shift. We’re fostering a proactive safety culture where managers at every level understand their role in protecting colleagues, reducing risk, and maintaining compliance.
Successful delegates will receive a globally recognised IOSH certificate, and we also have access to the one-day Managing Safely Refresher course to ensure continued professional development.
This accreditation reinforces our position as a responsible employer and supports our wider sustainability and governance goals.
What about your recent business win with Greene King?
Greene King recently expanded its national drinks distribution fleet with 60 new Don-Bur built curtainsided bodies – a continuation of a trusted relationship between the two companies, which dates back to 1995.
The order comprises a variety of vehicle types, including 45 specialist low-height DAF 26-tonne 6×2 ‘XD’ 340 day cab chassis with rear steer axles.
Each rigid body is engineered for heavy-duty brewery operations, featuring interlaced baseframes that deliver an ultra-low floor height – ideal for efficient side loading of kegs.
All rigid bodies are EN 12642-XL certified for load containment and several are equipped with Dhollandia cantilever and tuckaway tail lifts.
The remainder of the order includes 18-tonne and 16-tonne DAF XB rigids, 7.5-tonne Isuzu chassis, and four 13.6-metre curtainsided semi-trailers. All rigid vehicles are fitted with Parksafe camera systems as standard.
Vehicle branding was delivered by Sapphire Graphics – part of the Don-Bur Group – who visualised Greene King’s supplied brand concepts and applied full livery packages across cabs and bodies.
Also, all paintwork was carried out in-house, reinforcing Don-Bur’s position as a true one-stop-shop for vehicle body manufacturing body and branding.
