Ford has unveiled its new a new entry-level Ford Transit City electric van for urban use, with a range of up to 158 miles.
According to Ford, the vehicle is an affordable, practical panel van designed for last-mile and multi-drop delivery operators, utility firms, builders and others who need a zero-emission van for urban use.
It is based on a dedicated EV platform from Ford’s Chinese partner Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) and comes in three body styles:
• L1H1 Van: A compact configuration ideal for tight streets and congested loading bays. Capable of carrying three Euro pallets and payloads up to 1,085 kg 3
• L2H2 Van: A high-capacity variant with 8.5 cu. m of load volume, payload up to 1,275 kg and over 3,000 mm load length 3
• Chassis Cab: Ideal for conversions such as delivery vans, or dropsides for municipal operators and utilities firms
To keep costs down, there is one powertrain option – a 148bhp front-mounted motor with a 56kWh LFP battery.
Charging tops out at 87kW, with an average power of 67kW, which means a 10 to 80% top up in about 33 minutes.
Standard features include a heated driver’s seat, keyless start, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, as well as Android and Apple mirroring.
Orders are expected to open before the summer, with first deliveries towards the end of the year.
Simon Robinson, chief programme engineer for Transit City said: “Throughout Transit City’s development, we were focused on delivering a cost-effective van that’s still safe and comfortable for drivers, and gets the job done for fleets.
“Regardless of body style, we’ll offer a single, comprehensive specification to help keep costs and complexity down.”
