Alexander Dennis has announced it will offer its AD Repower service, converting its existing buses to battery-electric vehicle technology, as an in-house operation.
AD Repower was first announced in August 2025 in partnership with specialist engineering firm KleanDrive.
However, KleanDrive went into administration in May and its assets were sold to new owner Palmer Energy Technology in June.
A total of seven engineering experts who were part of the partner’s team have joined Alexander Dennis.
They will be based at the manufacturer’s Harlow facility, which is home to one of the experienced AD24 Workshops that will undertake the conversion work on AD Repower vehicles.
AD Repower projects will initially focus on Enviro400-family double-deckers in the UK before evaluating demand for other products and in other markets.
Repowering offers a route to electrification at lower capital cost than new vehicle procurement, while extending the useful life of existing assets and avoiding the embedded carbon of new manufacture.
For local authorities and regional operators working under tight capital constraints and decarbonisation targets, it can provide a commercially viable pathway to electrification.
