What does your day-to-day look like?
I work closely with large fleet operators to help them identify the right vehicle and service solutions for their businesses. I act as a key point of contact throughout the journey, from initial discussions and specification through delivery and aftersales support. A large part of my role today involves helping operators navigate the transition to zero tailpipe emission transport, ensuring they understand the vehicles, wider infrastructure, funding and operational considerations required.
Tell us about how Volvo Bus is advancing the electrification of the industry
Volvo Bus is taking a holistic approach to electrification, recognising that the transition to zero tailpipe emission transport is about more than just supplying the vehicle. It is equally important to ensure that customers have the support they need to operate these vehicles successfully. We work closely with operators on infrastructure requirements, helping them to understand charging strategies, power needs and operational impacts.
How important are initiatives like ScotZEB and ZEBRA when it comes to promoting the uptake of electric buses in the UK?
ScotZEB and ZEBRA have been incredibly important in accelerating the adoption of electric buses across the UK. The transition to zero tailpipe emissions requires significant investment beyond just the buses, including the infrastructure and depot upgrades on top of new vehicles.
The funding programmes help bridge the gap and make it more viable for operators and local authorities to invest in new technologies sooner. They also demonstrate a commitment to decarbonising transport. Continued support and collaboration will be vital to maintaining momentum and achieving the UK’s long-term environmental goals.
Is the bus industry a good place to work for women, and what more can be done to make it even more welcoming?
The bus industry offers excellent opportunities for women and has made some real progress in recent years. We are seeing more women take up roles across all areas of the sector, from engineering and operations to leadership, sales and customer support. It is a diverse, innovative industry that offers rewarding careers with opportunities for development and progression.
There will always be more that we can do though; raising awareness of the wide variety of career paths is important, particularly among young women who may not have considered the industry. Strong mentoring programmes, visible role models, and continued focus on inclusive recruitment tactics can all help attract new talent.
Creating a supportive workplace culture where everyone feels valued and able to thrive remains essential for the industry’s future success.
