BYD unveils first Dolphin van for UK

23 Apr 2026

BYD, the manufacturer of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, showcased its latest LCV, the Doplhin Cargo e-Van at the CV Show.

The first model to commence BYD commercial sales in the UK, the vehicle is a van conversion of the Dolphin electric hatchback.

Alongside its combined WLTP range of 265 miles, it also provides more than 1,000 litres of loadspace, which has been created by removing the Dolphin’s rear seats.

These have been replaced by a solid bulkhead and a re-engineered rear floor.

The Dolphin Cargo e-Van on display at the Mediafleet stand featured a lightweight racking solution by Modul-System.

According to BYD, this launch into the LCV sector builds on the success of its passenger vehicles – in the first quarter of 2026, BYD recorded 21,337 registrations, earning a new car market share of 3.98%.

Full details of the Dolphin Cargo e-Van, including price and specification, will be announced shortly.

BYD also displayed its BD11 battery-electric double-deck bus, as well as the B12 battery-electric single decker in the Bus & Coach Expo section of the event.

The BD11, which comes at 10.6m or 10.9m and with a maximum of 532kWh of energy storage is already operating London.

Meanwhile, the B12 is available at 11.8m, 10.8m, 10.4m and 9.9m, with multiple confirmed customers so far.

In addition, BYD is set to introduce a battery-electric coach to the UK later this year as part of the continuing diversification of its product offering.

This is not expected to be an adaption of an existing coach, and will be designed specifically for the UK.
