Describe Isuzu’s D-Max EV?

The New Isuzu D-Max EV is the latest evolution of the award-winning D-Max platform, re-engineered with an advanced electric drivetrain.  Designed as a purpose-built business solution for professionals and fleet operators, the D-Max EV combines electric drivetrain technology with the credentials of Isuzu’s diesel-powered pick-up. Offering full-time 4×4, over a tonne of payload and a maximum 3.5-tonne towing capacity, it’s the first production electric pick-up in Europe to deliver full commercial capabilities. The production-ready model will launch with two premium trim levels based on the brand’s best-selling specifications, DL40 and V-Cross, named eDL40 and eV-Cross, respectively.  Both specifications are equipped with a dual-motor system, a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery delivering 149.3 kW (203 PS), and the same no-compromise durability that has long defined Isuzu D-Max.

How has Isuzu helped customers cope with the HMRC’s taxation changes last year regarding extended and double-cab pick-ups?

Isuzu UK has taken a leading role in helping customers navigate the taxation changes announced in the 2024 Autumn Budget. Through effective communication with our dealer network and targeted educational campaigns, we have worked closely with our customers to help them understand the changes to Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) and Capital Allowance (CA) treatment of Extended and Double Cab pick-ups as company cars from April 2025.

Last November, we launched the Isuzu V-Cross Commercial, a professionally converted two-seater model, with the rear passenger space permanently adapted into a secure load zone. Since the launch, we have seen exceptional interest from SMEs, farmers, tradespeople, and construction professionals who need a capable but fully compliant commercial vehicle that qualifies for the flat BIK rate and is classified as Plant & Machinery for Capital Allowances.

Although the changes affect only BIK and CA treatment of Extended and Double Cab pick-ups, we have seen ongoing confusion, with some customers and their accountants believing that these vehicles are treated as cars for Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) and VAT purposes. In reality, Extended and Double Cab pick-ups with over one-tonne of payload capacity still benefit from the fixed commercial VED rate and qualify for full VAT recovery, provided the business is VAT-registered.

Any new developments in Isuzu’s UK dealer network?

As The New Isuzu D-Max EV is set to arrive at dealer forecourts, we have been working closely with our dealer network to prepare their staff for the changes brought on by electrification. This includes EV-specialised sales and aftersales training, upskilling technicians to be certified as experts in the latest EV technology, and ensuring dealership sites are equipped with appropriate charging infrastructure.

What will Isuzu have on its stand at the Commercial Vehicle Show?

Isuzu UK will have a strong presence again at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show and will be using the event to showcase the brand’s continued innovation of capability, sustainability, and performance. This year’s event will mark the first public display of the right-hand drive D-Max EV model. We’re very excited to share what we’ve got in store over the coming weeks.

How important is the CV Show for Isuzu?

The Commercial Vehicle Show has always been a focal point in our events calendar, providing us with the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with businesses, fleet operators, and industry professionals. Over the years, the CV Show has given us the platform to exhibit some of our latest models such as the limited-run STEEL Edition, Huntsman, and D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35. In fact, last year was the world-first reveal of the Isuzu D-Max EV production model.

Not only did the launch pave the way for many positive conversations with major fleets about how D-Max EV can support their decarbonisation efforts, but it was a highly significant milestone in the brand’s history and the wider commercial sector.
