Tesla is planning to launch its Semi electric truck in Europe, with an official unveiling due at the IAA Hannover trade show, which runs from 15–20 September.
The manufacturer has confirmed it will unveil the technical specifications and launch details for the European-market Semi at the show, giving fleet operators their first detailed look at the vehicle.
It marks a major step for the truck that was first revealed by Tesla in 2017, but whose production and international rollout have been delayed.
The manufacturer began volume production of the Semi in the USA in April this year, at a dedicated plant alongside its gigafactory in Nevada.
Tesla has been targeting annual production of up to 50,000 vehicles once the facility is fully up to speed.
The Semi features a central driving position, cameras and assistance aids, as well as remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates.
Tesla’s Long Range Semi is powered by an 822kWh battery and features three electric motors with a combined power output of 1,087PS.
It has a claimed range of up to 500 miles and supports the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), with a charging power of 1.2MW.
According to Tesla, the Semi can recover 60% of its battery capacity in 30 minutes using its high-power charging system.
A Standard Range version is also offered in the USA, featuring a 548kWh battery and a 300-mile range.
The 40-tonne truck for Europe is expected to have a range of 340 miles and charging speeds capped at 800kW, with an efficiency figure of 1.0kWh per kilometre – or 0.62mi/kWh.
