Volvo launches new electric HGVs

16 Apr 2026

Volvo Trucks has unveiled its new generation of eHGVs, including a long-distance vehicle capable of travelling up to 700km on a single charge.

The main addition is the Volvo FH Aero Electric, which has a new e-axle design integrating twin electric motors and a 6-speed gearbox into the rear axle.

According to Volvo, the truck is designed for long-haul and intercity operations, offering a combination of high payload, fast charging and improved productivity.

This is compatible with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard and can charge from 20% to 80% in about 50 minutes.

Volvo has also upgraded its existing electric range, including the Volvo FH Electric, Volvo FM Electric and Volvo FMX Electric.

These trucks feature an all-new driveline, with maximum ranges now extended to up to 470km.

The updated models use a dual-motor setup paired with a new eight-speed gearbox, delivering smoother performance.

As well as MCS capability on the FH Aero Electric, the updated models support 350kW CCS charging, enabling a 20% to 80% recharge in about 65 minutes.

The new trucks will be introduced to markets in stages from this year as part of its wider strategy to decarbonise road transport.

Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks said: “We are broadening it and making electric solutions possible for an even wider range of transport assignments, and also adding a cutting-edge electric truck with a range of up to 700 km.

“We stand firm in our belief that electric vehicles will deliver a large part of the world’s truck transport in the future.”
