Land Rover celebrates production of first new Discovery Sport

Jaguar Land Rover has secured £3.5 billion in UK supplier contracts for the manufacture of its new Land Rover Discovery Sport, which started rolling off the production line last week.

The new model has created 250 new UK manufacturing jobs and follows a £200 million investment in the Halewood plant, resulting in billions of pounds worth of contracts being awarded to 55 UK suppliers. Many of these companies are now also making long-term investments in their own production facilities, safeguarding and creating over 1,000 jobs in the UK supply chain.

Ian Harnett, Jaguar Land Rover’s Purchasing Director said, “A strong, competitive supply chain, meeting our rigorous cost and delivery metrics, is fundamental to the sustainable growth of our business.  With many more new products in the pipeline, gearing up to supply Jaguar Land Rover is a solid business proposition.”

Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant has seen investment more than double, and its workforce treble over the last four years, now employing 4,750 people.  Read more about Jaguar Land Rover’s UK manufacturing in our feature here.
