What have been the main success stories and challenges for IVECO over the past few years?
The complete renewal of the product range after a huge €1 billion investment has resulted in our strongest product line-up ever. From flagship trucks that are receiving excellent customer and media feedback, to the all-electric eDaily that continues to lead its class, to have such a strong product range is a big company success.
While we introduced our most efficient diesel products ever – the new IVECO S-Way being 10% more efficient than its predecessor – IVECO has been a pioneer in alternative fuels for over two decades. Our CNG vehicles offer an up to 95% reduction in CO2 emissions versus an equivalent diesel when run on biomethane – an option that’s available across the entire range.
The launch of the IVECO S-eWay Rigid eHGV delivers a zero-emission solution without compromise thanks to some of the ingenious engineering that has gone into the product. To say we can offer a low or zero emission solution for every mission is not something everyone can say.
How important is the MPRS scheme to the CV industry and what is IVECO doing to make sure it meets the standards?
We obviously support any scheme that promotes excellence within the CV industry. When vehicles are somebody’s livelihood, it’s important that they know that any maintenance done on those vehicles is done to a high standard. Ensuring a commercial vehicle’s roadworthiness is the responsibility of the operator, so the scheme gives operators the peace of mind that their vehicles are properly maintained and fit for purpose.
At IVECO, we work with our dealer network to make sure all of their facilities meet the high standard that our customers deserve, and we do the same for our partnered bodybuilders and suppliers.
Tell us about IVECO’s alternative fuels plan and how do you see this developing in the next 10 years?
IVECO has been following a technology-agnostic approach. By that, I mean we haven’t put all of our eggs in one basket, because we don’t believe there will be a one-size-fits-all solution for operators. Our efforts have gone into making our diesel vehicles cleaner and more efficient; as well as helping operators switch to biogas, which can reduce a vehicle’s emissions by up to 95% versus a diesel equivalent – or to electricity, which will reduce their emissions to zero.
Technology is developing at a rapid pace for alternative fuels, and IVECO are at the forefront of that development with natural gas, electric and hydrogen solutions.
How important was the Tour D’Europe in getting the message across about sustainable fuels and what can it achieve in the long run?
The Tour D’Europe is a great opportunity for IVECO and other manufacturers to demonstrate to the world what alternatively fuelled vehicles can achieve in real world applications. There is no better testimony to a product excelling than actually seeing it in action. It’s the perfect platform to showcase technological advancements.
Tell us about the drive for efficiency and decarbonisation on your key products
The road to decarbonisation is not one straight line. Along with developing and launching class-leading alternative fuel vehicles, we continue to innovate with traditional fuels also. Our new xCursor 13 engine in the truck range is a prime example of this, being not only more powerful than its predecessor, but also over 10% more efficient. In fact, the actual number is 10.54% which has been certified by TUV SUD.
Aside from the engine, plenty of efficiency can be gained through other elements of the truck. Aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tyres, GPS predictive cruise control, even mirrorless camera systems can reduce emission by up to 1.5%. The new IVECO S-Way is a true TCO champion that allows operators to have their cake and eat it.
For those looking for those dramatic up to 95% reduction in emissions, IVECO S-Way CNG is the most powerful CNG truck in the market and can now be ordered as a 6×2, making this emissions-busting fuel source a viable proposition for almost every mission.
