How important an issue is tool theft in the UK?
Tool theft remains a serious issue in the UK, with thousands of tradespeople affected every year. It not only causes financial loss but also disrupts livelihoods and project timelines. Tackling this problem requires awareness and practical action, which is why we work closely with businesses, police forces and tradespeople to share advice and promote best practices.
Education, prevention and collaboration are key to reducing risk, and we will continue to support initiatives that help protect tools and vehicles across the country through 2026 and beyond.
This is exactly why we launched Tell TVL, the UK’s first real-time national database for van and tool crime. By encouraging victims to report incidents, we can build a clearer picture of how and where thefts happen, share insights with police, and provide targeted advice to help reduce risk.
Can you tell us about your new role as IAATI UK president?
As IAATI UK President, my priority is to bring people together to tackle vehicle crime more effectively. We will focus on sharing knowledge, improving training, and building stronger partnerships across the industry and law enforcement.
The goal is to develop practical solutions that help reduce theft and protect businesses and individuals. Collaboration and innovation will be key to making progress in the year ahead.
Tell us about TVL’s work with manufacturers such as Ford and Mercedes-Benz?
Working with leading manufacturers allows us to make vehicle security more accessible and convenient for operators. By integrating our solutions during production, customers can receive vans that are ready to work securely from day one, without the need for aftermarket installation.
Our focus is on developing products that complement factory systems and meet the real-world needs of businesses, helping them protect their assets and reduce downtime. Looking ahead, we will continue to explore opportunities to collaborate further with manufacturers to deliver even greater choice and security for customers.
