SMMT launches safety guidance for van operators following poor safety levels.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has welcomed government’s announcement that it will retain the existing frequency of the MOT test and encourage garages to subscribe to industry codes of practice.

This paper is SMMT’s written evidence to the House of Commons Transport Committee’s inquiry into the Strategic Framework for Road Safety. SMMT has submitted this response to the committee.

This paper outlines SMMT’s position on the MOT test regime, in anticipation of a review of the regime which is expected to commence in late 2011. SMMT strongly supports the current MOT test regime, which is critical in ensuring the safety and performance of vehicles on UK roads, and also directly supports many jobs within the sector.
