News from Volvo: Scottish animal feed suppliers Davidson Brothers (Shotts) Ltd has taken delivery of a new Volvo FH Euro-6 compliant tractor unit, which now forms the flagship of its 34-strong fleet.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland’s Glasgow East depot at Blantyre, the latest arrival features a Volvo standard roof sleeper cab on a 6×2 mid-lift chassis.

The new truck comes with Volvo’s D13K-500 Euro 6 engine producing 500hp, making it the most powerful vehicle bought by Davidson Brothers to date.

The FH also notched up another first for the company, as Operations Director, William Davidson opted for a three-year Volvo Gold Contract for repairs and maintenance.

“We have done all our own servicing and repairs in-house for almost four decades, but with the new Euro-6 technology it seemed more logical to take full advantage of planned servicing, technician monitoring of the truck via online communication and the 100 per cent uptime promise of the Volvo Gold Contract,” said William Davidson.

Davidson also opted for Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels to maximise payload figures and Wisbech-based, Priden Engineering Ltd fitted a twin output power take off (PTO) unit and extra rooftop driving lights.

“The Priden PTO makes our new Volvo FH-500 flagship a complete all-rounder. It can now haul a standard tipper trailer, a bulk blower and one of our walking floor trailers or molasses tankers,” added Davidson.

As with all the company’s Volvo trucks, the latest FH will be used on six years of frontline farm deliveries across Scotland and the north of England, before being moved onto seasonal goods inwards work for the remaining four years of its retention period.

Davidson Brothers (Shotts) Ltd’s long relationship with Volvo Trucks is thanks to two specific factors.

“Consistency is the biggest thing with Volvo Trucks,” said William Davidson adding, “Volvo’s standards of pricing, servicing, quality and longevity have always been consistently good. That said though, it is Volvo’s people who keep me coming back to the brand and we enjoy a great working relationship with all the team at our local Glasgow East dealership.”
