A deal has been signed between Hull-based EYMS Group and Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel of Henley-in-Arden for the sale of the Whittle Coach and Bus business.

EYMS made an announcement in October that Whittle would be put up for sale or face closure. Following discussions with Johnsons, a deal was struck with completion expected around 10 January. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The agreement secures the future of  office, maintenance and driving employees related to the coach side of the business. Johnsons will continue  coach operations from its Kidderminster site, which is leased from Ron Whittle. However, all of the Whittle local bus registrations have been cancelled and do not form part of the deal.

John Johnson, Commercial Director of Johnsons Coach Travel said: “We are pleased to see the joining of two well-known, long established coach travel families and look forward to welcoming the Whittles team and their customers to the Johnsons brand. We look forward to continuing the Whittles brand for coach hire, holidays and day excursions”.

Peter Shipp, Owner of EYMS Group commented, “We have promised, along with Johnsons, to make contact with customers and suppliers as soon as possible to reassure them that the Whittle Coaching brand will be continuing, just under different ownership, and I would also like to thank our valued customers for their support and loyalty during this period.”
