DAF Trucks is showcasing its new chassis specifically designed for urban environments at the Freight in the City show this month.

The new ‘City’ specification model is designed for urban distribution duties and is a part of the latest LF lightweight range which includes 7.5- to 18-tonne rigids and an urban tractor model. The LF City model on display is in 7.5-tonne form, powered by a new PACCAR PX-4 3.8-litre 170bhp engine with 600Nm of torque.  A lower-power 150bhp, 500Nm version is also available. Now the smallest engine in the DAF Truck’s range, the PACCAR PX-4 is matched to a five-speed manual gearbox and with a tight turning circle gives the LF City the required agility to make urban operation possible.

The LF City model can be specified with a range of box- and curtain-side body options, all of which are factory designed and assembled at the Leyland Trucks assembly plant in Lancashire, alongside the new CF and XF models. All LF models are available with a factory-fitted passenger lower window for improved visibility and increased safety for other road users, including an electrically-operated sliding upper window. The LF model debuting at Freight in the City is fitted with Advanced Emergency Braking System, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning.

“With the carrying capacity of a 7.5-tonner, the New LF ‘City’ boasts the handling qualities of a much smaller LCV,” said DAF Trucks Marketing Manager, Phil Moon. “A compact day-cab, lightweight and frugal engine, an uncomplicated five-speed manual transmission and a best-in-class turning circle offers customers a truly dedicated urban specification. We offer a wide range of chassis for urban operations at various weights and axle configurations,” he said, “and including DAF Silent Mode on selected LF, CF and XF models to enable low-noise operation primarily associated with night time deliveries.”
