Californian EV manufacturer Tropos Motors has commenced production at its European plant in Herne, Germany.
Operated in co-operation with Mosolf Group, the factory will produce around 3,000 commercial vehicles in the L7E-CU category each year.
The vehicles are designed as light electric transporters and benefit from easy charging, using domestic sockets and a body that can easily be converted to perform a variety of functions.
In addition, its compact dimensions and tight turning circle make it ideal for urban environments.
To begin with, the coronavirus pandemic means production will be limited and operated under the strictest health controls. However, eventually, around 50 staff will be employed.
The standard Tropos Able ST model offers a range of 80 kilometres and a top speed of 40 kph. Meanwhile, the Able XR can cover up to 260 kilometres and has a top speed of 85 kph. Charging takes around eight hours.
