The UK’s largest bakery brand, Warburtons has begun operation of its first 16 tonne electric truck, a Renault Trucks D Z.E. The vehicle will be based at the company’s Enfield site and can carry six tonnes of bread and bakery products on routes across London with a range of more than 90 miles.

The D Z.E. specified by the baker is a 4×2 rigid with a box body and rear side door and PPS Commercials tail lift. Its 200kWh, 600V lithium-ion battery is supported by a 22kW AC charger, which is compatible with DC fast charging up to 150kW. It is also covered by Renault Trucks Battery Performance Promise, which guarantees battery operation for 10 years or 250 megawatts of power delivery. The electric motor delivers maximum power of 185kW and 425Nm torque.

Steven Gray, Warburtons national transport manager, said, “As our first 16 tonne electric truck goes on the road, we mark another important milestone in our sustainable fleet management.  By using the Renault Trucks D Z.E. we offer our customers the same quality of service but with zero tailpipe emissions and quieter operation in urban environments.”
