Go-Ahead has been named as one of just 300 businesses to qualify for the Financial Times’ European Climate Leaders ranking. The system recognises the companies to have made greatest progress in reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity (tonnes of CO2 equivalent per £858,000 of revenue) from 2014 to 2019. Go-Ahead achieved a reduction of 22.5% during the qualifying period.

The company’s initiatives have included a commitment to operate a zero-emission fleet by 2035, the use of renewable electricity across all sites, and geo-fencing of hybrid vehicles to enable city centre zero-emission operation. The ranking considers Scope 1 emissions emitted directly from the company’s directly controlled sources, such as the operation of its vehicles, and Scope 2, emissions created through the purchase of electricity.

Katy Taylor, Go-Ahead chief customer and strategy officer said, “We’re pleased that Go-Ahead has been recognised for cutting carbon emissions. We will continue to ensure our buses, trains, depots and assets are as sustainable as possible – for the good of the planet and our passengers. However, we can all play our part in helping reduce emissions further. We need people to switch their journeys away from the car and to choose walking, cycling and public transport instead. That will have the biggest impact on reducing the UK’s overall carbon emissions.”
