New research commissioned by SMMT has found the development of connected and autonomous vehicles will help generate 320,000 jobs in the UK, delivering huge benefits to society and the economy. In the first ever comprehensive analysis of the UK opportunities provided by this new technology, KPMG has found that these new vehicles will deliver a £51 billion boost to the UK economy and reduce serious road traffic accidents by more than 25,000 a year by 2030.

New figures released by VOSA, the government body that oversees MOT tests, show that of the 8.1 million MOT failures in 2012, a significant proportion were caused by easy-to-spot issues.

Shocking new findings show that a third of motorists have driven a car knowing it has no MOT. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) surveyed 1,000 UK motorists and found that, of those that have driven a car without a valid MOT, 67% admitted driving for up to a week before the retest, 24% for up to a month, 7% for up to six months and 2% for more than six months.

The winning vehicle manufacturers in the 2011 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards (BIVSA) were announced yesterday at Thatcham Research Centre, with 21 separate awards for cars and vans recognising the work of vehicle manufacturers in improving security and reducing vehicle crime.
