Scania has announced a new low-entry cab for its L-series range, designed specifically to suit urban environment applications.
For improved visibility, and easy entry and exit, the new cab can be specified with automatic kneeling. The front air suspension system allows the L-series to lower, giving an entry step of 440mm on both sides of the cab. Three passenger areas can also be selected as an option, while three roof heights are also available. All cab lengths are 2,000mm in length.
Even in the kneeled position, the L-series can be driven at speeds up to 10mph, and users can enter the cab via a single step, with the cab floor set at 800mm. When not fitted with the kneeling function, a twin-step entry allows access to the cab with the floor set at 960mm. A passageway in front of the engine tunnel connects the driver and passenger cab areas.
Powered by Scania’s updated 9.0-litre diesel engine, available in 276, 315 and 254bhp versions, the L-series will also gain the OC09 gas-fuel engine in 2018, for both CNG and LNG in two power outputs. All engines are available with Opticruise or Allinson automatic transmissions.
“Traditionally, low entry cabs were restricted to the refuse collection industry but are now being specified for more and more applications,” says Andrew Jamieson, Sales Director for Scania (Great Britain) Limited. “The L-series is our response to this demand and we look forward to presenting this attractive and innovative new product to distribution and construction operators as well as to those in the waste sector.”
