BMW in £17m training boost for UK workers

11 November 2004 #SMMT News

BMW (GB) Ltd is to build a new state-of-the-art residential training centre to accommodate all its technical and non-technical training.

The £17m centre is an addition to the £11.3m investment in training and development made last year and will help increase the number of employees throughout the BMW dealer network from 9,000 to 11,000. The equivalent of £1,100 per employee has seen employee retention rates hit a record 95 per cent, 45 per cent better than the industry average.

By 2010, BMW dealership employees will go through 60,000 man days of training or personal development. Most of this will take place at the new centre, set to be operational in 2006. It will further boost the reputation of BMW’s in-house training and development which was awarded UK Skills Beacon status earlier this year.
