Four star award for Citroën C6

23 November 2005 #SMMT News

The Citroën C6 is the first car ever to gain the maximum EuroNCAP award of four stars for pedestrian protection. In the independent crash tests, it also achieved five stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child protection.

When involved in an accident the C6’s safety system detects if a pedestrian has been struck and then activates a ‘pop-up’ bonnet, giving greater clearance between the bonnet and the solid engine underneath. This helps to prevent avoidable deaths and injuries to vulnerable road-users. The C6 is the first volume production car on sale in the UK to feature a ‘pop-up’ bonnet.

Claes Tingvall, EuroNCAP chairman said, ‘It is very gratifying that Citroën has achieved four stars for pedestrian protection. A few years ago, some manufacturers claimed that it was impossible. Now, it is clear that manufacturers who are committed to all-round safety can protect those outside the car without compromising the safety of those inside. Citroën are to be congratulated for setting an example which we hope others will follow’.
