Thousands vote to highlight best garages

Regional winners named in nationwide campaign

The operator of OFT-backed codes of practice for the motor industry, Motor Codes, has revealed the 20 most trusted garages in the UK, as nominated by motorists.

Through its Garage of the Year contest, brought to you by Havoline, an annual initiative to help motorists find reliable garages that offer consistently good customer service, Motor Codes has gathered feedback from over 13,500 car service and repair customers.  The top 20 represents the regional winners of the competition and is split to show motorists’ favourite large and small businesses.

Motor Codes managing director, Chris Mason, explains the idea behind the contest, “It’s clear to see from the tremendous level of support for the competition – we received double the number of votes compared to last year – that motorists value simple, good old fashioned customer service.  The car service and repair business is a two-way relationship, with word of mouth important for garages and consumer confidence.  Garage of the Year gives people a formal way of showing their appreciation, at the same time as letting other motorists know where to find the garage good guys.”

The twenty regional finalists will now have their votes and customer feedback analysed by a panel of motoring experts including The Sun’s Motors editor, Ken Gibson, Emma Butcher, consumer editor at What Car? magazine, Peter Lawton, editor of industry magazine Car and Accessory Trader and John Jackson of Havoline.  In addition, each regional winner will be independently assessed by the RAC, to monitor quality of service, value for money and overall customer satisfaction.

Once the assessments have taken place, the overall winners – the UK’s best large and small garage – will be announced. You can view the regional winners on the Motor Codes website.

Motorists who voted in the competition will be entered into a prize draw to win tickets to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, as well as a year’s free car servicing* and, as well as the prestige of winning the title, garages are competing for a prize package including Snap-on vouchers and free Motor Codes subscriptions, worth over £10,000.

Complementing the Garage of the Year competition, Motor Codes offers a postcode-driven garage finder on its website, www.motorcodes.co.uk, showing over 6,700 garages that subscribe to its customer service guidelines.  Each garage has a profile page, complete with real-time customer ratings.
