Automotive companies and leaders were honoured last night at the Low Carbon Champions Awards, which also marked the 10th anniversary of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP).
To coincide with the celebrations, LowCVP presented two special awards to organisations – Ford Motor Company Ltd and Transport for London (TfL) – in recognition of their efforts in cutting carbon emissions from UK road transport over the last decade.
Graham Smith, Managing Director of Toyota Motor Europe London Office, was also honoured as an Outstanding Individual in Promoting Low Carbon Transport.
Toyota (GB) Plc scooped the prestigious Low Carbon Car / Van Manufacturer of the Year award. The judges praised Toyota’s “pioneering” efforts in low carbon mobility over the last ten years. Cars emitting less than 100g/km CO2 now represent more than 30% of Toyota and Lexus sales.
Commenting on LowCVP’s 10th anniversary, Transport Minister Norman Baker MP, said, “LowCVP shares our commitment to achieving benefits for UK businesses and they have worked closely with the Government to help to reduce CO2 emissions and improve economic growth”.
Speaking at the event last night, the Minister paid tribute to the work of motor manufacturers in supporting the low carbon agenda.
Referring to the quality of entries received, LowCVP Managing Director, Andy Eastlake, said, “The judges had a tough time deciding on the category winners as the variety and calibre of the entries was higher than ever, which just reflects how the whole industry is rising to the challenge of low carbon mobility.”
The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards recognise environmental best practice in key areas from vehicle manufacturing to fleet operation to the development of products and services that reduce greenhouse gases from road transport operations.
