Aftermarket Section
The Aftermarket Section is one of SMMT’s largest sectors. Its membership of around 140 companies is drawn from manufacturers, importers, and distributors to trade outlets. All are active in the independent aftermarket.
Members are involved in the supply of accessories, replacement parts and components, or tools or materials used in the service or maintenance of motor vehicles and trailers. Section members are also active in the car multimedia and electronic vehicle security sectors of the aftermarket. Their interests span cars, commercial vehicles, buses and coaches, and trailers.
The Section’s main activities are:
- representing the sector’s interests to UK government
- informing and consulting its members on legislative developments affecting the aftermarket
- representing the independent aftermarket’s interests at EU level through membership of FIGIEFA and CLEPA.
- providing technical and market information
The size of the Aftermarket Section prevents it from meeting. Instead an Aftermarket Committee is elected by section members every two years. A number of specialist committees and activity groups keep the Committee informed of subjects on which the section’s members want it to take action.
The Section is also a member of the Automotive Aftermarket Liaison Group. The group’s members, all associations active in the independent aftermarket, seek to develop common policies on UK aftermarket issues.
