News from Schmitz Cargobull: McCulla, a logistics provider for temperature-controlled and ambient goods, has taken on five more Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailers, having found their durability and robustness the perfect complement to its operations.
The company, with bases in Lisburn and Dublin, operates a mixed fleet of 125 trailers, has now expanded with its latest outright purchase from Schmitz Cargobull.
McCulla has previously bought both new and used Schmitz Cargobull trailers and has been extremely impressed by the resilience of the German-engineered assets.
Brian Beattie, Operations Director of McCulla, says, “We last bought new trailers from Schmitz Cargobull in 2008, and all of them have stood the test of time. Our groupage operations are quite high-intensity, which means our trailers need to withstand a lot of punishment. We’ve selected Schmitz Cargobull for our expansion because we know they are fantastically durable and robust.”
The new multi-compartment trailers come equipped with Thermo King fridge units and will run on multi-drop work, operating in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. Three of the units will be carrying out general cargo operations such as transporting chilled and frozen food for supermarkets and catering suppliers, while two will transport pharmaceuticals.
Beattie explains he particularly expects to see lower lifetime operating costs for the new trailers.
He says, “We plan to operate these new trailers for ten years and based on our previous experience, we believe we will have lower repair and running costs. Particularly, we appreciate the fully galvanised chassis – that means we won’t have issues with corrosion, despite regular sea crossings.”
He adds: “The Ferroplast insulation means we can have a larger internal width without compromising on temperature control or efficiency. We have one customer who is very pleased that we can offer this on our fleet and in general, we find that Schmitz Cargobull trailers have a high level of customer acceptance, so the new assets are beneficial from that perspective too.”
McCulla has more than 40 years’ experience providing temperature-controlled and ambient logistics services from its base in Northern Ireland.
