An Optare Metrodecker EV bus has taken a break from trials with Go-Ahead London to join an electric vehicle gathering at the Ace Café, London.
The meeting was the first of its kind to be held at the café for pure electric vehicle owners, which also included passenger cars and motorbikes, forming part of the café’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
Robert Drewery, Commercial Director, Optare, said, “We were delighted to be asked to take part in this event promoting electric vehicles and highlighting to the public what is really possible with battery electric power. Many were surprised to learn the Optare double decker was fully electric and interested to hear about the air quality improvements such vehicles can bring.”
Graham Johnson, Go-Ahead London, New Cross, General Manager speaking about the trail of the Metrodecker EV said, “As one of the major bus operators in London we are committed to finding solutions to reduce air pollution. We are currently monitoring how the Optare Metrodecker EV responds to London traffic and how it affects the amount of power used on various duties. The fully electric double deck has a passenger capacity of 99 and is being trialled on route 36, one of the busiest routes in London, which provides an excellent testing ground for this kind of vehicle.”
