The biggest pure-electric city bus fleet outside of China has started operation in the Chilean capital of Santiago.
Latin America’s first electric bus corridor is serviced by 386 all-electric buses – 285 of which are manufactured by BYD – operated by Enel X and Metbus.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chilean President, Sebastián Piñera; Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt; Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet; Minister of the Environment, Carolina Schmidt and other officials, and executives from COP25.
President Piñera said, “We are taking this great leap forward and into the future. This new public transportation system will allow us to improve the quality of life of all inhabitants.”
