ELB Partners has added eight Volvo FM 460 Globetrotter tractor units to its fleet in a move that will maximise road safety.

The Croydon-based company has deployed the new 6×2 trucks at its 60,000 sq ft headquarters, to be used primarily for hauling loads in and around the English capital.

The trucks have been specified to conform to London’s three-star Direct Vision Standard (DVS), which guarantees the vehicles can continue to legally enter Greater London from October 2024.

They also feature Volvo’s forward collision and lane departure warning systems.

To drive further safety gains, ELB has equipped its new FMs with Volvo’s Visibility+ package including V-shaped LED headlights, which automatically adapt to ambient light conditions, as well as rain-sensing windscreen wipers.

The vehicles are powered by Euro-6 step E engines, which can produce 460 hp and a peak torque of 2,300 Nm, as well as automated I-Shift gearboxes.

They are backed by five-year Volvo Blue contracts that will see Volvo’s dealer in Croydon carry out maintenance, along with a hire purchase agreement from Volvo Financial Services.

The trucks are expected to cover about 100,000 miles per year and work 20 hours a day throughout the week.

Peter Eason, Managing Director at ELB Partners, said: “These tractors are a perfect fit for urban delivery; they’re just so easy to drive in the city.

“In our experience, Volvo’s build quality has always been second to none, and the array of safety options on offer will help keep our drivers, customers and other road users safe.”
