Forty-vehicle fleet operator McGuinness Haulage has taken delivery of six new Volvo FH 500 with I-Save 6×2 tractor units as part of its ambitions to minimise fuel consumption.
The new trucks, each with Globetrotter XL cabs, have been supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials to replace older models in the Preston haulage firm’s fleet. The vehicles’ D13TC Euro-6 Step E engine delivers fuel efficiency via turbo-compounding technolog, which allows drivers to maintain lower revs and a higher gear for longer.
Further economy gains are unlocked by roof and cab side air deflectors, and Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox.
Other features included in the I-Save package is Volvo’s predictive cruise control system, I-See, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead, and I-Cruise with I-Roll, which adjusts speed to further optimise fuel consumption.
The vehicles come with four-year Volvo Gold Contracts and have been acquired via a Hire Purchase agreement from Volvo Financial Services.
Expected to cover 87,000 miles a year, the trucks will typically be operated from Monday to Friday on bulk animal feed and grain tipper work across the UK.
Anthony McGuinness, Transport Manager at McGuinness Haulage, said: “Reducing our company’s carbon footprint is a key component of our business plan, so we’re delighted to welcome these new Volvo FH with I-Save tractor units.
“Through the technology on board we can continue to push the envelope on fuel economy, helping boost our bottom line while lowering our overall emissions.”
