Northumberland-based R.L Proudlock & Sons has taken delivery of a Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter 6×2 tractor unit, plated for 65-tonne GCW operation.
Supplied by Jonny Devlin, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the new arrival joins a mainly Volvo fleet and replaces a ’15 plate FH.
The vehicle’s D13K Euro-6 compliant Step E engine – producing 540 hp and a maximum 2,600Nm of torque – allows it to easily tackle plant distribution alongside livestock, bulk and general haulage.
Its 12-speed I-Shift transmission times every gear change by constantly evaluating information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand.
Proudlock has also opted for a Visibility+ package, which includes V-Shaped LED headlamps, electrically heated and operated rear view mirrors and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, alongside additional LED spot lamps.
It also features leather upholstery, a heated and ventilated driver’s seat, twin bunks and full air suspension, are also onboard.
Founded in 1975, R.L Proudlock & Sons is a family-run business based in the hamlet of Kirkheaton, from which the company operates across the UK.
Its new FH is expected to clock up to 120,000km per year and remain in the fleet for at least three years.
Daniel Proudlock, Director, R.L Proudlock & Sons, said: “As always, Jonny has been a huge help, taking the time to fully understand exactly what we needed on the spec, ultimately securing us a twin wheel tag axle setup that allows us to have an extra two tonnes on the rear.
“That ensures we have a very capable truck that can handle whatever we throw at it.”
