Diesel takes record market share in October, at 26.8 per cent

Ã…£ Diesel registrations are up 40.5 per cent to 520,093 units, so far this year

Ã…£ From January to October the new car market rose 4.6 per cent to 2,247,381 cars

Ã…¥ Total new car registrations in October dipped 1,180 cars to 184,145 units

Commenting on the October figures, SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan said, ‘After a dip in September registrations it is encouraging to see the market stabilise in October. Overall, this year has been a story of growth driven by two key segments, sales of small cars and demand for diesel models. The industry had expected the new car market to cool in the latter half of the year but demand remains strong and so SMMT has raised its year end forecast to a record 2.54 million units.’
