It’s the biggest month of the year for new car sales. And now buyers looking for the best new metal with an 05 registration plate can be sure they are getting a good deal.

Figures from the European Commission car price report show that recommended retail prices in the UK have fallen by 1.2 per cent – more than all other major European markets.

The report – Car price differentials within the European Union – shows UK prices falling more than in Germany, Europe’s largest market, which saw a 0.1 per cent drop. In France, prices rose 1.1 per cent with similar increases in Spain (2.2 per cent) and Italy (0.8 per cent).

The Commission also reported that price differences between countries are falling. In the enlarged European Union of 25 member states, prices differ, on average, just 6.4 per cent – a fall from 6.9 per cent six months ago.
