SMMT today publishes a new edition of their most requested publication Towing and the Law. The guide gives a summary of the legislation that governs light trailers – affecting many industries such as the leisure, railway and construction sectors.
The 40-page booklet includes an extensive range of subjects – from towbars, coupling types and the correct use of breakaway cables – via driving licence requirements – to when tachographs are needed.
SMMT believes that the new version, which replaces the 1999 edition, explains the growing complexity of the legislation and highlights safe practice. The introduction of colour illustrations and additional text also helps to improve the guide.
Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the SMMT said, ‘The last edition of Towing and the Law sold nearly 140,000 copies, proving the need for a guide in the industry. We fully expect the new guide to be just as popular’.
The contents of Towing and the Law are relevant to any commercial or industrial user of light trailers (up to 3,500 kg), as well anyone using trailers for leisure purposes.
The guide costs £5.00 including post and packaging (UK only) and can be ordered online at www.smmt.co.uk/category/reports/ . Alternatively, orders, with accompanying payment, can also be sent to Publications Department, SMMT Ltd, Forbes House, Halkin Street, London SW1X 7DS.
