UK car production to smash export record
Provisional output data released today by the Office for National Statistics shows:
- Best November performance since 2000, despite loss of MG Rover
- Production for export up 4.4 per cent in November and 0.9 per cent in year-to-date
‘Export volumes continue to boost car production in the UK’, said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Eight in every ten cars made in the UK in November is destined for export markets and we expect the 2005 total to reach record volumes and market share. Overall car output in 2005 should hit 1.6 million units, a little down on 2004 but still a strong performance.’
Strong exports deliver CV growth
- November CV production fell 0.6 per cent on November 2004
- Export production rose 12.5 per cent on November 2004
- Rolling annual total of 208,052 units at year-to-November
‘Like car production, commercial vehicle exports have underpinned output throughout 2005,’ said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Growth in November meant that total CV production for the month was broadly the same as last year. Overall, we expect total CV production will be close to 210,000 units by the year end.’
