Vehicle production – January 2006
- Commercial vehicle production up 2.4 per cent
- Car production down 12.5 per cent
- Total UK vehicle production down 10.7 per cent in January
Cars:
‘While it was a slow start to the year, the future remains bright for car production in the UK,’ said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive.
‘We still host eight volume car manufacturers and more specialist sports car makers than any other European country. We hope that yesterday’s news at Longbridge will add to that number, and the entire industry looks forward to welcoming China’s Nanjing Auto to the most cosmopolitan manufacturing base in Europe.’
Commercial vehicles:
‘A good start to the year for IBC, Ford and Leyland Trucks has led to January’s 2.4 per cent CV production hike,’ commented Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive.
‘CV export production jumped 10.5 per cent on the back of a strong European market.’
