‘Production was down 7.8 per cent over the year to date, with the late Easter break accounting for some of April’s losses,’ commented Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Inevitably, the focus with manufacturing falls to the number of cars that roll off the line. However, Ford has announced further expansion of engine production at its Bridgend plant, investing £100 million and creating 250 new jobs. This is good news from the automotive sector, and we need to shout about it.’
‘CV production is steady over the year to date, with total volumes just 308 units below those of 2005,’ commented Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Production for export remains strong on the back of a growing van and truck market in mainland Europe, up 9.1 per cent year to date and with a 3.5 per cent increase on April last year.’
